Gambellara (Vicenza) - Veneto
Marcobarba: Reviving abandoned vineyards with a biodynamic approach
Marcobarba is dedicated to reviving abandoned vineyards, most of which can no longer be cultivated by their owners. In the Gambellara region, the winery focuses on biodynamic viticulture and natural winemaking. The aim is to produce simple and honest wines from clean and authentic grapes. The result is a range of different wines and a grappa that reflect the combination of tradition and sustainable practices.
The Marcobarba winery, founded by Marco “Barba,” has its roots in the province of Vicenza in Italy. Marco initially worked as a carpenter until he discovered his passion for biodynamics and Rudolf Steiner's anthroposophy, after which he gained experience in Switzerland as a cattle breeder and farmer. In 2015, he returned to Veneto and began working at his friend Stefano Menti's winery. Thanks to his experience in viticulture, he began vinifying grapes from vineyards he cultivated in his hometown for elderly widows. In 2018, he finally founded Macrobarba, together with his “Barbaboyz,” with whom he maintains close friendships. His goal is always to produce pure, authentic wines that are made with great respect for the environment and his homeland.
Marcobarba cultivates a variety of grape varieties in the various vineyards he manages, including Glera, Trebbiano, Riesling Italico, Merlot, Raboso, Garganega, Moscato Giallo, Ribolla Gialla, Cabernet Sauvignon, Corvina, Rondinella, and Cabernet Franc. The vines mostly grow on clay and limestone soils. Biodynamic viticulture and natural winemaking result in unadulterated wines with strong character that capture the essence of their terroir. With their dedication and expertise, the “Barbaboyz” contribute significantly to the quality and uniqueness of the wines, while always striving to preserve the region's winegrowing traditions. Marcobarba thus stands for a philosophy that combines tradition with modern methods to create authentic and expressive wines.
