Lizzano (Taranto) - Apulia
Tenuta Macchiarola traces its origins back to the mid-1980s with the purchase of 19 hectares of land, 10 of which were planted with vines immediately afterwards. After a mass grubbing-up, in the years when the practice was subsidized, vines were planted again in 2005. Since 2007, the company has been run by Domenico Mangione, a pharmacist by profession, but descended from a family of contract winegrowers.
The following years were years of study, experimentation, and passion. It was a vineyard rented in Lizzano that marked a turning point for Domenico.
The land is typical of Apulia, surrounded by rocks, olive trees, and cultivated fields. Organic farming brings vitality and richness to the rows of vines, with many wild varieties coloring the vineyards. This has led to a deep respect for nature, in being neutral with regard to the vintage and the will of nature. Tenuta Macchiarola works with Primitivo, Verdeca, Fiano, and other local grape varieties.
