Arturo Giovanni Di Viberti e figli

La Morra (Cuneo) - Piedmont

Spirito Agricolo was born from an idea in 2015 by Gianni Viberti, born in 1963, which officially came to life in 2017 with the purchase of vineyards in the municipalities of Monforte d'Alba and Roddi and buildings in Borgata Cerequio; and subsequently in 2018 with the production of the first wine from its own organic vineyards.

Spirito Agricolo is an offshoot of Gianni's family's historic winery, Cascina Ballarin, located on the road at the bottom of the valley, just before Barolo, in the hamlet of Annunziata, and founded by his grandparents in the late 1920s. This is still the location of the winery and wine aging cellar, as well as the majority of the vineyards that are part of the Bricco Rocca dell'Annunziata appellation, characterized by the marl of Sant'Agata, fossil formations typical of this area. In this project, he is supported in all aspects of the work by his young daughter Cecilia, in her early twenties, who has just completed her studies at the Alba School of Oenology.

Organic and Biodynamic Agriculture

The winery has been certified organic and Demeter since 2022 and 2023, respectively: Gianni followed the teachings of Stefano Bellotti of Cascina degli Ulivi in 2017 and then those of Nicolas Joly in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

The wines are the result of a journey of agricultural knowledge and experience in the field. In the 1980s, Gianni worked in the Ratti wineries, and their style seeks the maximum expressive purity of the grapes. For this reason, no sulfites are used on either white or red wines (a real rarity for the area), and the parts bordering other nearby vineyards where the processes are diametrically opposed, as required by organic and biodynamic regulations, are excluded.

All wines are vinified separately; there is no temperature control and maceration, particularly for Nebbiolo, is very long and can continue until late winter, always with a submerged cap, according to Langhe tradition.
